Don Bravo Mexican Grill in Marshfield Opens New Location in Pembroke

A Mexican restaurant on the South Shore has been joined by another location nearby.

According to a Facebook post, Don Bravo Mexican Grill is now open in Pembroke, with the Washington Street outlet joining another at Webster Square in Marshfield. Based on that location, the new restaurant in Pembroke will offer such items as tortas, tacos, fajitas, enchiladas, burritos, chimichangas, and quesadillas.

Levain Bakery to Open in Boston's Seaport District

A group of bakeries based in New York City will be opening its second location in Boston, and this one will be along the waterfront.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Levain Bakery is planning to open in the city's Seaport District, with Caught in Southie mentioning that it will move into a space on Seaport Boulevard. Once it opens, it will join another on Newbury Street in the Back Bay and it will feature extra-large six-ounce cookies.

Levain Bakery first started out in the mid-1990s on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

Just Salad Plans to Open in Boston's Fort Point and Burlington

A New York-based salad chain that recently opened a second Boston-area location has more expansion plans for the region, with at least two more coming to the local area.

According to a web page, Just Salad is planning to open locations in Boston's Fort Point and in Burlington, joining existing locations in the Financial District and in Needham, the latter of which is having a grand opening celebration this week. Based on the other outlets, expect to see such options as salads, salad wraps, warm bowls, soups, smoothies, and more at the new spots.

Just Salad got its start with a location on Park Avenue in Manhattan in 2006, and currently has more than 80 locations in 7 states, mostly on the East Coast.

Rockwood Music Hall in Boston's Fenway Has Closed

A small music venue in Boston's Fenway neighborhood has closed after less than a year in operation.

According to an article from Vanyaland, Rockwood Music Hall on Van Ness Street shut down as of May 1, with a note on the website for the place saying the following:

As a business that depends on bar sales to survive, unfortunately we were not generating enough to make operating sustainable. Thank you for all your support. All shows beyond Apr. 30th have been cancelled, tickets will be refunded automatically within 7 business days.

Rockwood first opened in the summer of 2023, having a connection to Rockwood Music Hall in Manhattan; the Boston space had a capacity of 120 and mainly featured local acts.

The address for the now-closed Rockwood Music Hall in the Fenway was 88 Van Ness Street, Boston, MA, 02215.

Kung Fu Kitchen to Open in Brookline's Coolidge Corner

A small group of Chinese restaurants based in New York City will be expanding to the Boston area.

According to Geoff Wong, who posted within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Kung Fu Kitchen is planning to open in Brookline, moving into the space on Beacon Street in Coolidge Corner that had been home to Six Po Hot Pot and before that, Replacing Rani Indian Bistro. Based on the locations in New York City and on Long Island, expect to see such options as hand-pulled noodles, handmade dumplings (including soup dumplings), stir-fry dishes, and more.

The Half Cookie to Open at The Street Chestnut Hill

A bakery business that features cookies--and which has had a pop-up along the Boston waterfront--will be opening its very own brick-and-mortar shop a few miles west of the city.

According to a press release, The Half Cookie is planning to open at The Street Chestnut Hill, offering cookies for grab-and-go and via catering starting on May 9. In addition to its pop-up at The Current in the Seaport District, The Half Cookie has also been selling its products at such places as the Charles River Speedway in Brighton and the SoWa Open Market in the South End along with online orders through its website.
